As Steve Jobs once said, “I want to put a dent in the universe.” That’s precisely what the protagonist of this story, an Egyptian entrepreneur, did. From dropshipping in college to starting up his own companies, he has always been fascinated by the concept of e-commerce.

In this story, we follow my journey through various startups, such as E3qilha, BotCommander, and Crevalu, and the obstacles I faced, such as government intervention, competition, and the loss of my most important asset. Despite these challenges, I never gave up, and I continued to pursue my dreams.

This story shows us that with the right mindset, motivation, and team, anything is possible. I hope you enjoy it. 

2012

THE FIRST TOUCHPOINT!

As a college student, I was always looking for opportunities to learn and grow. It was then that I stumbled upon a new kind of commerce that technology had brought to the table - dropshipping. My friend Anas and I were fascinated by the concept and decided to start our own small business in Saudi Arabia. It was our first touchpoint with the world of entrepreneurship, and I was hooked.

 

2014

PRE-MAROOF'S ERA

 

As we were working on our project, we noticed a serious problem in the e-commerce industry, particularly in peer-to-peer marketplaces like "Haraj." The majority of cases were fraud-related, which made it hard for buyers and sellers to trust each other.


This is where "E3qilha" hit me, though!

This is when the idea of "E3qilha" hit me. It was a third-party service that protected everyone's rights by receiving the goods, examining them to see whether they matched their description, delivering them to the customer, and obtaining payment. It was a game-changer, and we were excited to bring it to the market.

2016

THE GAME HAS CHANGED

The government's intervention was a must, and that's when Maroof was created by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment. However, this was unfair competition and the demise of E3qilha. It was a tough pill to swallow, but it didn't stop me from exploring new opportunities.


2017

NEW COUNTRY NEW DREAMS NEW START

In the summer of 2016, I met my childhood buddy, Eng. Mayla, in Egypt. He happened to be an AI prodigy and a former IBM employee. We decided to collaborate and develop BotCommander - a firm that specialized in creating chatbots with an Arabic theme. 

With "Store Plus," a solution we created, social merchants could quickly create a store on Messenger. It was an exciting time, and we were ready to take on the world.

WEB SUMMIT

Attending the Web Summit in Lisbon was an eye-opening experience for me. I was exposed to some of the most innovative and creative minds in the industry, and it fueled my passion for entrepreneurship even more.

GITEX was another exciting event that I attended. It was an opportunity to network with industry experts, learn from their experiences, and gain insights into the latest technological trends.

CES

CES was an event that I had always dreamed of attending. It was the perfect platform to showcase our products and services to a global audience. It was a proud moment for me and my team to be part of such a prestigious event.

2020

BITING THE BULLET

We raised 1M+ EGP with BotCommander, graduated from a number of renowned business incubators, and took first place in a number of international contests.

In fact, we were in excellent form; we had produced popular goods with high traffic, worked successfully with the Egyptian government on a few initiatives, and had speaking requests from the press, radio, and national television. The planet was all we had.

However, it had to come to an end when Eng. Mayla, our most important asset, was forced to make a difficult choice after receiving a highly alluring offer from a multinational mega-company based in Germany.

The problem was that Eng. Mayla was unique. Finding a genius like him who was willing to devote his time and energy to a developing firm wasn't simple.

I used to have high tech that Eng. Mayla was developing and passing on to me to sell, but now I have nothing to offer!

2020

“A WARRIOR DOES NOT GIVE UP WHAT HE LOVES, HE FINDS THE LOVE IN WHAT HE DOES”

Without a question, this was a significant setback for me, BUT!! There is no time to rest; opportunity only knocks on the door of the prepared. There is no time to lick my wounds as I now have everything an entrepreneur could ever require. knowledge, ties, perception, and motivation. The most crucial element for success is FAILING!! right?

I started assembling a new team right away since I already knew what the next big thing would be. "Ideas merely have no value without the proper team and the correct execution," as Eng. Wael El Fakharany once told me.

2019

CREATIVE/CREATED VALUE

The year 2021 marked a significant challenge for us as a business due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our team had to adapt to the new reality of remote work and virtual meetings.

However, we saw this as an opportunity to expand our reach by taking advantage of digital channels and social media platforms to promote our products and services.

Despite the challenges, we continued to grow and innovate, focusing on delivering value to our clients and staying ahead of the curve.

2019

A THOUSAND-MILE TRIP BEGINS WITH A STRONG VALIDATION.

We put together a sales team and focused on only one area to build a solid portfolio, focusing on strong validation for the new concept, and that sector was real estate.

2020

AND WE'RE BACK

We spent over a year planning, verifying, and optimizing. That year, we built up a broad range of products and services that every real estate agency / Developer needs.

digital maquettes, ERP systems, CRM systems, smart brochures, BIM services, smart visualisations, and so on.

established a sales force of more than 160 salespeople, who sold 3.5 million EGP worth of items and brought in around 1 million EGP in revenue.

COVID 19

THE PANDEMIC TOOK ITS TOLL

Total curfew, no transactions, the market is in upheaval, instability reigns supreme, and no one knows when it will end. Salespeople are unable to reach organizations, decision-makers are unsure of their choices, and there is no funding for future planning. There isn't a single house that hasn't sustained a loss.

This was the overall image of the market during these difficult times.

So we decided to fight back and in the meantime, we finish the inner work so that we would be ready when this storm passed, so we completed our beta fully-automated platform. and thoroughly documented every product in our catalog, as well as creating educational resources for newcomers.

The time was difficult, and with no income for the business, we opted not to abandon the team; rather, we attempted various approaches to keep the entity alive until the blackout cleared. But the pandemic's impact was so powerful that we decided to put the project on hold.

THE GREAT DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION WAVE!

It was clear that there is a significant shift toward digital transformation, particularly in e-commerce.

The curfew did not prevent people from shopping; it only altered how they did it. As a result, we must pivot in response to market demands. 

Simply said, we must transition from the B2B market to support B2C SMEs.

2022

CREVALU BECAME CRETARGET

Cretarget is not your typical marketing agency. We intend to target large merchants with extensive experience in the offline market and assist them in transitioning their operations to the digital realm. From start to finish, we'll handle everything you need to successfully reach your digital audience.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The team is growing, revenue is booming, and clients are pleased. but!!

I'm quite aware that I'm not a comfort zone person. Don't get me wrong: I'm grateful for the opportunity to recover. I know that as a family man, I have duties that I must meet, and this distracts me from taking on high-risk initiatives. So it'll do for now, but I'm still hunting for the NEXT BIG THING.
